Hello! I’m Amanda. Welcome to my home, The Fundamental Home. My husband, Rick, and I have embarked on a journey to get back to the fundamentals. We started this journey in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Every member of our family was born there, and it seemed like we would never leave. We struggled to get by in our early years while Rick and Amanda both worked (more than) full-time positions. Our children spent time in public school, private school, and day care. We were trying to live “normal” lives, and we were coming up empty. Then, we made a choice. We decided that we were not going to live in the rat race anymore. We were going to follow the Lord’s will for our lives. Amanda quit her lucrative position to become a homeschooling mom. Rick left his career to attend Bible college. He accepted a smaller, but more flexible position near that college, and the family moved to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. We committed ourselves to living a more simple lifestyle. Though the move was meant to be temporary, the foothills became our new permanent residence. In 2014, we bought our first house- a beautiful brick foreclosure on 1/3 acre. This is the place where we really begin. Our family is learning everything from scratch. It is our hope that we will be faithful and wise stewards of all that we have been given. We also hope that we can can share our experiences with those who come after us, that they will also hold fast to the fundamentals of home.
Let me tell you a little more about each member of the family..
Rick is the head of this home. He graduated from college after studying the Bible, and has been pursuing God’s will for his ministry ever since. Rick has been involved in Nursing Home Ministry, Soul-Winning and Visitation, Master Clubs, Youth Leadership, Addictions Ministry, Preaching, Teaching, and many other ministries in the local church. He has worked with produce for working on 20 years to provide for his family. In his spare time, Rick enjoys listening to sermons, good music, and spending time with his wife.
Amanda has spent the last several years focusing on her children’s education as a homeschooling mom and has even led her county’s homeschool organization. Previously, Amanda taught in Christian School. She has also been involved in ministries with her husband. Her favorite ministry work was in the women’s prisons. In her spare time, she is working on finishing her degree in Early Childhood Education. Amanda loves to garden, cook, crochet, and sew.
Brian is 20. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Business Law from Western Carolina University at the age of 19. Brian now works full-time for a local ministry. He enjoys reading, chemistry, and playing video games.
Ricky is 17 years old. He works two part-time jobs AND attends our local community college, majoring in advertising and graphic design. Ricky is the kind of guy who is everyone’s friend. He loves animals and has spent many hours volunteering at a local nature center. He also has led Bible studies for teens and won awards for preaching. Ricky is an artist and can be found drawing throughout the day. He would like to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and, perhaps, become a youth pastor some day.
Briana (pronounced Bree-AH-na) is 14 years old. She is in 8th grade. Her favorite subject is Home Economics because she loves to bake. This lovely lady is also known as “BB.” She is always making videos, doing graphic design, and taking pictures. Briana enjoys spending time with young children and often volunteers to work in the church nursery. She usually can be found carrying around at least one little one or one of our many cats. Briana hopes to graduate high school at 15- younger than either of her brothers did. She would like to study either video production or photography.
And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
